I read a blog post recently about dating and deception. (It also linked to another blog post about a particular “pickup technique.”)
Although I was never very good at the dating “game,” and would have felt silly trying most “techniques,” I found the topic an interesting one. As the author points out, there’s a point at which deception and manipulation are minor enough that few if any would find them very objectionable. You’re expected to make a special effort to look and act your best when dating, and as long as that’s not too big a difference from your normal appearance/behavior, there’s no significant harm. I suspect, though, there is a fair amount of the objectionable type of deception and manipulation in the dating world.
