Birthdays

Posted by Chevalier on May 31, 2009

I ran across some comments recently that involve birthdays in P4P, in a couple of slightly different contexts.  First, the idea of ladies offering clients a “birthday special,” a discount on his birthday (or sometimes anytime that month).  Second, queries about how a client might have a special P4P celebration of his birthday.

Those are very normal sentiments among the community, and certainly not objectionable, but I’m not sure I think of them the same way.

A new word

Posted by Chevalier on May 31, 2009

Well, more a mild bit of humor than a serious nomination for new terminology for P4P.  This comes from the latest contest results in the Washington Post Style Invitational, in this case for neologisms using certain letters.  And one of the honorable mentions:

Trystworthiness: The degree to which someone can be counted on not to kiss and tell.

Of course, that’s from the perspective of an affair.  In P4P?

Strange functionality at TER

Posted by Chevalier on May 28, 2009

I may just be missing something — I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, particularly when it comes to computers and the like — but I’ve run across something that seems rather strange about the functionality at TER.  It’s actually a little bit annoying.  It has to do with mail/private messages.  Specifically, the ability to receive such.

Routine?

Posted by Chevalier on May 28, 2009

One of the common rationales offered by P4P clients for their participation is the need for variety; that is, sex with one’s wife or SO in a monomgamous relationship becomes routine.  You start taking it for granted and it becomes less satisfying and interesting.  It can take a great deal of effort to maintain that interest/excitement in sex with your SO.  Not everyone manages to do so in a monogamous relationship; in fact, perhaps most don’t.

I fall more into the category of “sex isn’t even available at home”; I don’t claim that justifies my participation in P4P, but at least it’s part of the explanation.  But the variety explanation interests me, although not just in the context of civilian relationships.

What about in P4P relationships?

My laugh for the day

Posted by Chevalier on May 28, 2009

One of the more witty and amusing ways I’ve seen to express a common lament by escorts.  Check it out here on Antonella’s blog. :)

I always know

Posted by Chevalier on May 27, 2009

When I check the stats for the blog . . . and they’re significantly higher than normal . . . I always know what it means.  ASPD is down, or at least hiccuping badly again, and people are looking for information about what’s going on.

I don’t have any information, you understand, and I don’t think people are even necessarily checking my blog because they think I do.  But people start doing Internet searches for aspd and this is one of the sites that comes up, evidently.  Some of the search terms that have lead to my blog today include:

aspd alternate site
aspd.net alternate site
aspd crash
aspd hacked
did aspd crash again
why is aspd down again
aspd.net shut down
aspd crashed
aspd down
aspd alternate
aspd home2
aspd again

Those accounted for half of the searches that lead people here.  (There are, of course, other searches that hit this blog frequently.  “cunnilingus instruction video” shows up frequently in my stats, and “chevalier” combined with ”blog” and/or “aspd” bring people here as well.  And today, tied for the most popular search term that lead people here is the nom de amour of a ladyfriend.)  And once they get here, either by search or coming directly to the blog, they apparently search for “aspd” on the blog, based on how many hits some of the specific entries are getting.

Anyway . . . sorry to disappoint, folks, I don’t know much more than you do.  I’ve heard that they tried rebooting the system, several times, and it wasn’t successful.  Beyond that, who knows why or when (if) it will be back?

Ethics

Posted by Chevalier on May 26, 2009

Here is an interesting blog entry by Alexa (Real Princess Diaries) with a draft Code of Ethics for “providers.”  Of course, the initial response to most of the items would be “hey, that should be understood as an absolutely minimum baseline; don’t all the ladies do that?” . . . but in fact, not all do, necessarily.  A little lagniappe: here’s an earlier blog entry where she discusses why she’s pursuing it.

I don’t know how it will work out, but it’s a very interesting project.

As always, check out not only the blogger’s entry but also the comments.  Including the comment about establishing a similar code for clients. :)

(I don’t remember if I explicitly mentioned earlier, but I’ve enjoyed my — for now, too brief — excursions to Alexa’s blog and have added her to my blogroll.)

Ally

Posted by Chevalier on May 25, 2009

Here’s an interesting post, from about four months ago, on Red Light Chicago about “How to be an Ally to Sex Workers.”  (I ran across it from a link on Alexa’s blog, here and also see my blogroll.)

I won’t quote the entire thing (let alone the comments); you can read for yourself. :) But here’s a brief summary of her points:

Damn

Posted by Chevalier on May 24, 2009

A survey in Britain concludes that computer geeks (a/k/a IT workers) make the best lovers.

They were found to be the most selfless in the sack, the most adventurous and more likely to use love gadgets.

And here I am one of the least competent at computer technology of anyone around.  The Help Desk people have my phone # and office location memorized, largely because I can routinely be counted on to experience (or cause) novel problems that no one else in the company runs across.  *sigh*  Guess I will have to explore some continuing education.

The only bright spot is that office workers tended to have sex more often than other professions.  You’d think with the extra practice we’d get better, but apparently not.

How common is “survival mode”?

Posted by Chevalier on May 20, 2009

I certainly recognize that not all escorts are living the high life, and the typical “economic analysis” sometimes posted by clients — “X visits per day x $Y x 20 day/month x =” — are understandably offensive.  P4P is not like a normal 9 – 5 job where you can count on a reliable stream of work.  There’s a lot of time taken up in marketing, screening, making arrangements, etc.  And a lady can’t count on X number of visits per week anyway.  Clients may come and go; a lot of them only see a lady once or twice before moving on, or concentrate on the “flavor of the month”; reliable regulars may be relatively few.  In today’s economic climate, some clients have less disposable income to spend on P4P; they may be playing less frequently or “bargain hunting.”  It’s a tough world.  Some ladies may get very few calls a week/month.
